All of the geeky things

If you can’t tell by now, I am a fan of all things geeky. That is I love anything related to wizardry, time travel, dystopian realities and so much more.

In a not-so-recent video by one of my favorite fandom YouTubers, Tessa Netting posted about three of her favorite monthly subscriptions and it’s a dream come true for me.

The first is a box called the Bookish Box. It’s a box (wow! really?) filled to the brim with all things literary, including bookmarks, mugs, perfumes, candles, posters, etc. Each box is supplied through some of my personal favorite, smaller online shops like The Fragrance Library and the Appraising Pages Shop. If you pay a little extra, you could also get a shirt – and they have every size imaginable. Boxes range from $18.99 to $32 a month but can go up to over $300 when purchased in bulk.

The second is a subscription called Fandom Adventures. Fandom Adventures sends each customer a book for the month and includes a plethora of merchandise themed around that particular novel. November’s box featured the book “The Collectors Society” by Heather Lyons signed by the author and included a tote bag, bookmarks, specialty tea inspired by the book and a tea-cup for the specialty tea. The boxes start at $38 each month plus shipping and handling but, much like Bookish Box, can be bought in bulk.

The last, and possibly most intriguing, subscription comes from Half Blood Prints. The monthly service comes with one 8×10 print on matte card stock, one bookmark, one 4×6 calendar sticker for the following month, and one custom 4×5 magnet. Super-fans, like me, can also purchase the premium box which comes with all of the above and a shirt. The poster, the bookmark, the calendar, and the shirt are all designed by the lovely elves behind Half Blood Prints. July 2016 was themed for Narnia (a.k.a. “The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe”), August was “Star Trek,” September was “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” and October was Disney Villains. The monthly box is $8 with $2.50 shipping and the premium monthly box is $18.99 with $4 shipping. All international customers pay an $8 shipping fee.

It’s quite a hefty price when compared to small, unrelated subscriptions like Ipsy’s $10 a month with free shipping, but it’s nothing like you can find anywhere else.

Maybe one day I’ll be able to buy these boxes, but for now it’ll be just another dream.

Stay strong. Stay beautiful.
